Nationwide event, rally at UT marked by hours of silence
After spending several hours without speaking, members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community broke the silence at a rally Friday afternoon at the Capitol.
The Day of Silence started 12 years ago as a protest against the harassment experienced by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. It has since spread, with schools across the country taking part in the national movement.
