Metro Police are looking for the public’s help in the beating death of a transgender Murfreesboro man who was found shot to death in the parking lot of a Nashville bar.

The body of Nakia Ladelle Baker, 31, of Richardson Road was found next to his car at 3312-B Nolensville Pike behind Club Adventura & Billiards in the early morning of Jan. 7.

Baker – who lived as a woman but had not undergone surgery to change genders – was shot in the head by a handgun, Metro Police Detective Brad Corcoran said.

“There was some type of altercation in the parking lot and a struggle, and a gunshot,” Corcoran said.

Although the death had initially been reported as a beating death, an autopsy found a bullet.

There were signs of a struggle around Baker’s car, but no one in the area – including security guards – reported hearing a gunshot, Corcoran said.
