A new reality TV show where eight men dress up and portray themselves as women will be aired in Turkey, but risks stirring controversy in this mainly Muslim country, the Turkish press reported on Thursday.

The program will be broadcast on the private Kanal 1 network and is inspired by the US show “He’s a Lady”, newspapers said.

Thirteen candidates aged 19 to 39 showed up at an Istanbul studio dressed as women and with full make-up to earn a place on the show; eight were chosen to spend three weeks dressed as women in an Istanbul flat filled with cameras.

Viewers’ votes will eliminate at least two a week and the last one to remain will win the “Best Lady” award and 50,000 Turkish lira (about $38,000).
