Obama aide to gays: Passing workplace-bias law will be tough

The Obama administration’s highest-ranking gay man urged the gay community Friday to prepare for a tough fight as Congress considers a law that would ban workplace discrimination against gay and transgender workers.

John Berry, director of the federal Office of Personnel Management, told a convention of 3,000 gay and lesbian business leaders at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort that President Barack Obama also supports reversal of the military’s controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
