Reagle’s ‘La Cage’ dazzles with gender-bending appearances

Waltham – This summer’s season at Reagle Players has been devoted to Jerry Herman musicals, and so fittingly they close it with “La Cage aux Folles,” a show that offers lots of high-energy spectacle and a chance for male actors to try to convince you that they are women.

The opening number is a showstopper, and the Reagle Players carry it off with considerable style. Jamie Ross as Georges, the owner of a drag nightclub in St. Tropez, France, speaks to us as if we’ve come to his club, and introduces us to his dancers, “Les Cagelles,” to the quiet, seductive beat of the orchestra.
