“I can’t give you anything but love, baby,” Judy Garland croons to the crowd, and they gave it right back.
“Isn’t she tremendous?” a besotted man says to a companion during the applause.
But looks, in this case, were deceiving. The “she” on stage is a he – Jim Bailey. He’s been performing as Garland (and Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee and Phyllis Diller) for more than four decades. Bailey’s resume includes gigs in Las Vegas, before presidents and royalty, and countless TV appearances, starting with the Carol Burnett show – at Burnett’s request.
