Off the Agenda: Men driving as women posing a big problem

Rep. Carl Wimmer, a Herriman Republican, has dropped his plan — at least for now — to stop transgender Utahns from switching the sex designation on their driver licenses until they’ve absolutely and irreversibly completed a sex-change operation.

The state’s current policy allows an applicant to swap the “M” for “F,” or vise versa, by submitting written verification from a physician, psychiatrist or therapist that the applicant is in the process of a gender transition. A person who undergoes sex-reassignment surgery is required to live as the desired gender for a year first.
