When they left the courtroom, the eyes of parents Amancio and Maribel Corrales were still red from the tears they had cried during Thursday’s sentencing of the man who killed their son.
Mother Maribel later said that while she wasn’t happy with the sentence given to Ruben Solorio Valenzuela, at least she finally had some closure.
“This wound will never heal. It will always be open,” she said outside the courthouse. “The court process has been like a knife always reopening the wound.”
