The Carnival of Las Palmas reaches the height of its party-packed month the first two weeks of February. With the Drag Queen to be crowned the night this paper comes out, there are processions to be seen and unforgettable nights out ahead (although you may need to be reminded about one or two things you get up to).

The Las Palmas Carnival officially opened on 18th February with the ‘pregón’ or opening ceremony. The hostess was Canarian folk singer Mary Sánchez, who appeared as the goddess Athena since this year’s theme is Olympus. The entire stage is decorated as Ancient Greece with even the fountain in Parque Santa Catalina being incorporated into the design. This year the stage is set at an angle so there can be more stands for viewing the different Carnival events.
