Drag queens are supposed to mix class with crass, and trash with flash: so why has a hostess in drag been fired from her Gay Bingo gig? Evidently for… well… being a drag queen.
Columnist Dan Savage reported in a Nov. 14 story that Glamazonia, a drag hostess at Seattle’s Gay Bingo, was summarily given the axe for allegedly not following the sexual harassment policies of Lifelong AIDS Alliance, which is the fund-raising event’s beneficiary.
Savage noted in his article (http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/11/lifelong-dedragging-gay-bingo), which appeared in the Nov. 14 edition of his column The Stranger, that Glamazonia (also known as Thom Hubert) has served as the event’s hostess for the last seven years. However, according to Hubert, the new contract stipulations he was expected to adhere to would have made it impossible for him to do his job in the time-honored fashion.
