Candis Cayne was born Brendan McDaniel in Maui, Hawaii. Her parents had moved there from California so they could teach at a Waldorf school.
When she moved to New York, Candis received a scholarship to the Steps dance studio and studied dance for several years. She started performing at Boy Bar, a gay bar in New York City under the name ?Candis Cayne?.
In 1996, Candis would make the transition from male to female.
