Toronto – On Wednesday October 3, TVO presents a unique
television-web event aimed at fostering a greater understanding of the
transgender community, and providing a vehicle for dialogue for families and
the public at large.
The event kicks off with the world broadcast premiere of Girl Inside at
10 pm on TVO (repeating Sunday October 7 at 10:30 pm). Filmed over three
years, the documentary follows 26-year-old Madison’s transition to becoming a
woman. Throughout the process, Vivien, Madison’s 80-year-old grandmother, is
her support figure and takes on the job of advising her on all things
feminine. Madison’s gender metamorphosis unfolds as an emotional, intellectual
and spiritual journey of self-discovery that is as important as the physical
journey of hormones and surgery. And while Vivien’s attempts to school Madison
in the mysterious codes of feminine fashion and behaviour are often hilarious,
her straight-up questions raise profound issues about the nature of gender and
sexuality.
