Three San Francisco transgender men were honored at a conference this month for proactively moving their community forward.

On September 1, Marcus de Maria Arana, Shannon Minter, and San Francisco Police Sergeant Stephan Thorne received awards at the Gender Odyssey conference in Seattle for their work promoting a positive image and advancing transgender rights.

“[They] stepped into a world as who they are with dignity and helped change the world, made an incredible first impression, [and] allowed the community to grow in incredible ways,” said Aidan Key, founder and director of Gender Odyssey.
