A statewide advocacy organization has introduced a hate-crime bill to the state Legislature named after a Yuma gay man and gender performer who was murdered in 2006.
According to spokesman Sam Holdren, Equality Arizona introduced the Amancio Corrales Act on Monday during a press conference on the lawn of the state Capitol building in Phoenix.
“(Corrales) was the likely victim of a bias-motivated crime based on his gender expression,” said Holdren, who has family from Yuma.
