While lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals, as well as LGBT advocacy groups, have become common on college campuses across the country, the needs of transgender individuals are still largely unmet at the UofA, a transgender student said.
“We’re kind of ignored,” said Olivia DeMille, a transgender student who is working on a doctorate in mathematics.
DeMille, who is also an instructor in the mathematics department, began a gender transition from male to female while teaching and noticed many problems transgender individuals could face at the UofA.
