“Is that glitter on your arm?” someone asked a friend later as we sat a bar. “Oh, yes, well, we just left P.S. 122,” he replied, which is usually enough to explain away all confounding glitter surprises. It’s understood that all political performance art these days must include a little glitter, some strong tape, cardboard, rhinestones and papier mache. These are the basics of the Downtown firmament, and we had just sat through Jennifer Miller’s “Cracked Ice or Jewels of the Forbidden Skates,” the latest recipient of P.S. 122’s Ethyl Eichleberger Award (past beneficiaries: Taylor Mac, Julie Atlas Muz & Justin Bond).
