James Boylan was a talented child raised in privilege along Philadelphia’s Main Line. He became both a successful literary novelist and a respected college professor. In his early 40s he came out, to family and friends, as a woman trapped in a man’s body. He then proceeded on to a complete change of sexual identity through therapy, hormones and surgery.
