San Francisco Bay Times – Sister Dana Van Iquity
Producers/directors John Catania and Charles Ignacio?s stunning documentary, The Lady In Question Is Charles Busch, begins its one-week run April 14 at the Castro Theatre. This fascinating mixture of movie clips, home movies, and interviews opens us up to the wonderful world of Busch?talented actor, gifted writer, awesome female impersonator? and most importantly?classic leading lady. Through a span of several decades and occasional flashbacks to his youth, we see the development of his genius in authoring and acting?from doing wacky shows in a tacky bar in the East Village to filming funny parody movies in Hollywood to becoming an award-winning playwright in the mainstream. The film begins with a written quote from Whores of Lost Atlantis, a novel by Busch: ?Life isn?t an old movie.? And his retort is: ?Oh yeah? Maybe not a feature, but this adventure was most definitely made for TV. It seems only natural that I should view life as a celluloid fantasy.? And so he does.
