Comedy Central orders a series from transgender comic Jordan Gray
Transgender stand-up Jordan Gray has landed her own series of shorts of Comedy Central.
In Transaction, she will play a ‘transgender narcissist’ working the night shift in a major supermarket while YouTube comic Thomas Gray plays her best friend.
Comedy Central says that over the six five-minute shorts ‘their fast-paced dialogue touches on transgender issues alongside other identity topics and everyday discussions’.
Jordan Gray, who made TV history as The Voice UK’s first transgender contestant, also wrote the series.
Meanwhile, the formats, Comedians Solve World Problems and Dragony Aunts are both returning to Comedy Central UK for second series in March.
Acts tackling the big issues in the former will include Seann Walsh, Dane Baptiste, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Rosie Jones and Suzi Ruffell.
And in Dragony Aunts, drag queens Crystal Rasmussen and Candy Warhol return to offer advice on topics such as parenting, ageing and coming out to guests including Mutya Buena of Sugababes and comedian Stephen Bailey
Nine five-minute episodes of both will be made – then redubbed into several languages and distributed across the world.
All three series will be released on Comedy Central UK’s Facebook, YouTube and Instagram accounts, in addition to the channel’s website.
Comedy Central executive Rebecca Hewett said: ‘ We’re continuing to forge full speed ahead in the short form space, expanding and growing our slate to engage digital-first audiences on whichever platform they’re consuming content’
