Cross-dressing for a good cause

Dick Smith, a Tybee Island city councilman, typically wears a coat and tie to meetings of municipal governance.

But during a cancer-fighting fundraiser at Marlin Monroe’s Sunday, there were a few gaudy accessories added to the dapper alderman’s outfit.

“This is custom-made – my wife made this for me,” Smith said, peering down at his pink sash and tasseled brassiere. “I’m doing this simply because it’s supporting breast cancer research for young women. It’s important that young women get checked.”
