(Bloomberg) – The National Theatre of Scotland’s production of “The Bacchae” of Euripides lands at the Rose Theater in New York with a thud.
Opening the Lincoln Center Festival, it is eminent Scottish playwright David Greig’s new version of the play, based on Ian Ruffell’s literal translation, and starring Alan Cumming as Dionysus. The staging is by John Tiffany, who also directed the acclaimed “Black Watch,” soon to return to Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse.
