In the summer, Davis gets hot – some would say, too hot. The brothers of Delta Lambda Phi, however, are looking to take the heat one step further when their annual drag show revue, Davis is Burning, returns to the Veterans Memorial Center on Friday. The event, which began as a basement show for Delta Lambda Phi fraternity brothers in 1990, is now celebrating its 17th year as a Davis gender-bending tradition.
The event not only confounds traditional gender roles but features professional drag performers and a drag king and queen beauty pageant, said Christopher Guerrero, the president of Delta Lambda Phi. Guerrero’s fraternity has organized the event for the last 17 years.
“The first part of the show features those who signed up to perform – usually doing lip-synch or dancing routines,” Guerrero said. “The second half of Davis is Burning is like a cat-walk; audience members say their stage name, show off what they’re wearing, and are judged by the performers.”
