Drag queens mom will reign on parade

The mother of drag queen Mark Anderson, who was at the centre of controversy last Bermuda Day, is showing her love for her son in a special way – by riding with him in this year’s parade.

Leonette Anderson will be sitting next to Mr. Anderson, who is also known as Sybil Barrington, on Thursday in a grey Peugeot he has hired for the event.

She said she will be wearing her everyday clothes, but Mr. Anderson will be decked out in glamour queen garb, whose design he is keeping under wraps until Bermuda Day.

Mrs. Anderson, who is a devout member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, said it’s her way of making a statement that parents should love their children, whether they are gay or straight.
