Comic Eddie Izzard says he was stunned to finally crack America because studio bosses had kept turning him down for being a transvestite.
The 45-year-old is causing waves on both sides of the pond thanks to his role in US drama The Riches.
His performance as gipsy swindler Wayne Malloy has already won him a part in Tom Cruise’s blockbuster Valkyrie about the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
But Eddie told how he had struggled to cross over from comedy to acting because he wore lipstick and high heels.
