There is a population of youth in today’s society in which over 50 percent attempt suicide. This population is the transgendered youth.
What is transgender? It is an umbrella term for anyone who transcends traditional gender norms. This could include crossdressers, transgenderists and/or transsexuals. The definitions of those terms would bring up even more need for definitions.
The whole subject of transgender issues is barely touched on at any level of education. Gonzaga will be offering a sociology course next semester in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender study, but other than that course, it is shockingly hard to find information on transgender issues. The presence of transgendered persons in any given area would surprise most. It is estimated that the percentage of adult males who have crossdressed is as high as 50 percent.
