Pamela Jones didn’t think the day would come when there would be a conference in Charlotte to highlight the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) community. Much less one to address the needs of aging GLBT people.

Thirty years ago, Jones lived most of the week as a man and as what was then referred to as a crossdresser on the weekends. He was often afraid for his safety. “In the ’70s it wasn’t safe to leave the house,” said Jones, 65.
