The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is one step closer to creating safer, inclusive school environments after trustees unanimously approved a gender equity policy last night.
The gender equity policy aims to eliminate stereotypes based on gender or sexual orientation from the classroom and throughout the school board. The controversial policy, first introduced in October 2007, caused enough public dissent that the board opened it to a second round of online public consultations last fall.
