A person can be gender nonconforming in many ways. Some of us feel we have been assigned the wrong gender, while others don?t think gender applies at all.
Regardless of the nature of one?s gender deviation, one thing is clear: It?s not exactly appreciated. Most Americans understand and accept only two sexes, two genders. Small wonder so many transgender-identified people face blatant discrimination and violent assault on a regular basis.
Paisley Currah, coeditor of Transgender Rights, hopes the new anthology will expand the discussion of trans issues.
The self-identified trans man is Associate Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, Executive Director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies, and Cofounder of the Transgender Law and Policy Institute.
