(Jersey City, New Jersey) A special HIV/AIDS awareness campaign is being created to specially target transsexuals in the Jersey City area, across the river from Manhattan.

Transgender women represent a disproportionately high number of new HIV/AIDS infections in Jersey City and Hudson County.

The goal of the program is to reduce the rates of new infections among transgender women by promoting safer-sex practices, treating substance abuse and emphasizing the benefits of general health.

It is being created by Hudson Pride Connections and the Hunter College Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training in New York.
