Inmate says hormones treat identity disorder

A male Wisconsin prison inmate who has developed feminine characteristics after taking hormones testified Tuesday that the treatments have helped him deal with gender identity disorder.

Vankemah Moaton, 29, who uses the name Tatyana, is one of three plaintiffs in a federal case trying to overturn a Wisconsin law that bars inmates from receiving the female hormones. They claim that stopping their treatments would be a form of cruel and unusual punishment, and would violate their right to equal protection under law.
