There is a first time for everything, and this June will be the first time for Kalamazoo Pride. This landmark event will be held on Saturday June 9, 2007 from 6:00 pm to midnight at local metalworking school and gallery, SmartShop, 516 E. North Street, Kalamazoo.
“This is not a ‘gay pride’ event, per se,” mentioned Adam J. Martin, Operations Coordinator for, and founder of Kalamazoo Pride. “We’re reflecting a wave within our community and, indeed, culture in that we’re both celebrating and promoting forward movement within society at large.”
Among those speaking at the event will be Jay Kaplan, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Project and Triangle Foundation’s Director of Policy, Sean Kosofsky.
