Lambda fears effects of state bill

A Tennessee state legislator proposed a bill last week that Vanderbilt’s Lambda association, which advocates for gay interests on campus, feels discriminates against members of the community.

On Jan. 29, Sen. Paul Stanley of Memphis filed a bill that may effectively ban gay adoption. Although the word “gay” or any reference to homosexual persons was not explicitly stated, many feel that the subtext was clear. The bill proposed by the state Senate “prohibits any individual who is cohabitating in a sexual relationship outside of a marriage that is valid under the constitution and law of this state from adopting a minor.”
