The long standing tradition of the annual Carnival is the most important festival of the year for Las Palmas, the Capital City of Gran Canaria.

Over a period of three weeks the everyday life of the city takes on party atmosphere as local people and visitors from many parts of the world set out to enjoy all the facets of this major Fiesta. Las Palmas is a cosmopolitan city, and much of this in reflected in the many ways employed to celebrate the event. On this its 33rd year, the 2009 theme is “PIRATES”, which lends itself to plenty of scope for dressing up, disguised as anyone from the infamous Long John Silver to the formidable female pirate Anne Bonney.
