In a case which demonstrates clearly the need for legislation implicitly outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation, a Florida McDonald’s refused to hire a teen simply because of her transgender status.
Zikerria Bellamy, a 17-year-old Florida woman, applied online to work at an Orlando area McDonald’s in July of 2009 and was subsequently asked in for an interview. What happened next is beyond the pale and should not only be “against company policy,” but illegal and punishable.
