A celebration of the life of transgender pioneer Claire Skiffington will be held Sunday, July 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the SEIU union hall, 350 Rhode Island Street (weekend entrance is on Kansas between 16th and 17th streets) in San Francisco.
Ms. Skiffington died June 11 at Pioneer House, a retirement facility in Sacramento, following a lengthy struggle with cancer. She was 62.
An employee of the city’s health department, Ms. Skiffington received recognition for reclaiming unbilled monies for the city. She also was involved in the effort to remove transgender exclusions in the city’s health benefits. She also was a member of the Human Rights Commission’s Transgender Task Force.
