Miss Gay America Lives on Film

Pageant, now out on DVD, is an entertaining documentary chronicling the 34th Miss Gay America pageant that was held in Memphis in 2005. Fifty female impersonators competed for the title in the categories of Male Interview, Evening Gown, and Talent. 10 finalists were selected before one winner was crowned.

Co-director Ron Davis selected the film’s five featured impersonators for their qualities as performers and for their interesting stories. In a phone interview, he acknowledged the judge’s similar dilemma of having to, “look at every kind of art on the wall to determine which one’s the best.”
