The victim says he makes a convincing woman. So the after being attacked with a weapon, the question remains: Were his attackers fooled? Or, was he targeted because of his hobby?
It could make the difference in whether or not this act becomes a hate crime.
Cecil Landrum is your average guy ? happily married with grown children.
His attack is getting a little more attention because the suspects may not have realized just whom they were up against.
62-year-old Cecil Landrum ? a husband and father by day, female impersonator by night ? was attacked early Sunday.
Around 2 am, Landrum, dressed as Cathy Lynn, is attacked in his own yard.
On the drive home, having just finished performing at a Wichita nightclub, he recalls seeing a car follow him near 13th and St. Paul.
He didn’t think much of it until suddenly two men are behind him in his driveway. One of the men held an ice pick and demanded Cecil hand over his purse.
The thieves made off with Landrum’s credit cards and identification and left him with a black eye.
Monday morning, he discovered one card was used at this Quick Trip at Hillside and Pawnee. He immediately cancelled them.
So is this a hate crime? Police tell us for now; it’s being investigated as a robbery.
Even Landrum believes his attackers legitimately thought he was a woman ? until they got up close and personal.
It’s the intent that could make the difference in charges if the men are caught.
Through it all, Landrum has kept his sense of humor, he says even in heels, his first instinct when the fight started was to fight back, until he saw the ice pick in his attacker?s hand.
