Mother of transgender player Kye Allums alleges son prevented from playing – By Kathy Orton – Washington Post Staff Writer

The mother of George Washington women’s basketball player Kye Allums said her child has not been allowed to play despite being cleared by a team doctor and that the school has attempted to stifle Allums’s opportunities to speak about being Division I basketball’s first openly transgender player – one who identifies with a gender other than the one he or she was born with.

GW Athletic Director Jack Kvancz denied both accusations, saying the school’s first priority is to protect the health and eligibility of its student-athletes.
