One actor. Many voices: Portland teen takes on ‘I Am My Own Wife’

She enters in the dim light, looking like what she is, someone from another time and place. Wearing a black pleated skirt, sturdy, old-fashioned shoes, a small pearl necklace around the top of her black blouse, she moves with an easy, confident manner, dark eyes glinting, full lips speaking proper English in a distinctly German accent.

There’s something charming, maybe even quaint, about her. We like her. But we also can tell right away that behind her wit and courtesy lie secrets and complications.
