Boulder – Karen and Eric Boelts had a tough time at first. They were confused. They felt alone. They had no idea what transgender was all about.

“When Andrea was three, she told us that she was in the wrong body,” said Karen Boelts, the child’s mother. “And that she was really a boy.”

The Boelts want to protect the identity of their biological girl who is now a 13-year-old presenting as a boy. So, they are using the names Andrea and Andy instead of his real name.
