Authorities Arrest 17-Year-Old

Washington – Police said Friday they were investigating a series of hate crimes targeting gay and transgender people.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the latest attack, which happened in Chinatown near the Verizon Center, and investigators added they were looking for more possible suspects.

Witnesses told NBC 4 on Friday that they saw a group of young men throw a 16-year-old transgender person through a plate glass window.

The incident occurred at 6 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of 7th Street NW. One witness, who did not want to be identified, said the victim, described by police as a male to female transgender person, was wearing a dress and a wig. The victim was taken to a local hospital.
