A transexual man who had worked as a substitute teacher in Edmonton, Alberta, was fired last week by the Catholic school board that employed him. He has filed a human rights complaint, demanding to be reinstated. The trans man, Jan Buterman, was praised in his letter of dismissal for his teaching abilities, but told that his decision to transition from woman to man was not appropriately aligned with the teachings of the Catholic church. Apparently, a transgendered teacher would “confuse’ students – and their parents.
