As stressful events go, proms can rate pretty high on a teenager’s barometer – but imagine if you are a gay, bisexual or transgender student.
To help make them feel accepted and welcomed, schools and youth groups across the country are increasingly turning to so-called queer proms. At least a dozen cities, including Halifax, Toronto, Kitchener, Ont., Hamilton, Edmonton and Vancouver, are holding high school graduations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.
