Reader Response: Another view: Being different is not a sin

Nicholas D. Kristof’s column, “Evangelicals a liberal can love,” was in my Feb. 7 Foster’s Daily Democrat. I must correct his assumption that contempt of “conservative right” Christian evangelicals is based on their professed religion. It is not.

The true basis for any enmity toward conservatives is that many of them, encouraged by the likes of Pat Roberson, the late Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, etc., have worked to systematically deny the private rights of individuals. I am speaking, of course, of the spectacular political and public campaigns against legal marriage, adoption — even guardianship of their own biological children — for same-sex or transgender couples, and their support of anti-abortion groups.
