Red, White and RuPaul

Fashion plate and female impersonator is the star of local Memorial Weekend festivities

RuPaul is one tall drink of water — with a twist.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave (one not equipped with TV, cable or computer access) for the last 15 years, you’ve seen the mega-watt smile, the mile-high gams, the flawless makeup and the flamboyant beauty that characterize this veritable queen of drag queens.

Talking about the outward appearance is easy, but beyond that, describing RuPaul can be a sea of confusing choices: He? She? Model? Actor? Singer? Female impersonator?

Fortunately, the quick-witted and good-natured celeb has a saying that solves the issue: “You can call me He, you can call me She … I don’t care, just as long as you call me”.

And calling is just what RuPaul’s fans have been doing since learning that he (we tossed a coin and are going with “he”) will be performing at the Pensacola Civic Center this Sunday as part of the annual gay and lesbian “Memorial Weekend” festivities in Pensacola and Pensacola Beach.
