Kalamazoo – When lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adolescents are rejected by family members, they may abuse drugs or lapse into deep depression.

Some engage in behavior that spikes their risk for sexually transmitted diseases.

Some become suicidal.

The Nov. 5 and 6 seminars, sponsored by a coalition of eight local organizations and institutions calling themselves the Kalamazoo System of Care Community Partners, are aimed at family members, educators, clergy, therapists, health- and mental-health-care providers, child-welfare and juvenile-justice providers and anyone interested in the well-being of LGBT youth, according to the organizers.
