In 1969 – the dog days of the preternaturally long summer of love — Dr. David Reuben released a slim volume titled Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask). The book became a must-have manual and is widely deemed responsible for altering attitudes and widening the scope of what was considered freaky fun in the Seventies. Another person who, um, changed the definition of typical sexual relations is the ever-nebbishy auteur Woody Allen. Inspired by the self-help tome, Allen spun Reuben?s advice into comedic gold that is even funnier today, thanks to the film?s vintage position, surreal sketches, and the director?s highly controversial romantic life decisions.
