Student seeks greater consequences for harassment of gay students

A junior at Maine South High School, Anna Rangos, told District 207 board members last week about what she said is widespread harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual students.

Rangos said her peers in one class attacked her, calling her disgusting and unnatural. She said that in the hallways students often use anti-homosexual phrases like “Hey fag” or “That’s so gay.” Though one of the students she alleges harassed her was sent to a dean, Rangos said teachers could do much more to educate students about sexuality and punish sexual harassment in the hallways.
