The Nora Aunor case

GlobalNation.Inquirer.net – By Lourdes Santos Tancinco – Inquirer

Nora Aunor was reported to have been married to her same-sex manager. Varying reactions from the community are not surprising. Besides the shock and the impact on the moral sensibilities of many, does it really matter legally whether this is true or not? Maybe it does have legal consequence but in this article, let?s assume that her same-sex partner is a US citizen; will this confer any immigration benefit on her?

Marriage is still defined under US federal law as the union between a man and a woman. This definition is found in the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The US Immigration and Nationality Act governs the immigrant petition of spouses and requires that a spouse must be a person of the opposite sex.
