Has Lady Gaga made drag queens obsolete?
That question fluttered through my mind as I was watching “The Divine Sister,” Charles Busch’s highly entertaining new comedy at the SoHo Playhouse. Mr. Busch portrays the Mother Superior in a convent of many secrets, rather in the vein of Rosalind Russell at her grandest. But he is also embodying a long parade of movie goddesses, mostly from the first three or four decades of talking pictures (including Russell before she turned grand), for whom screen style was as intricate and ritualized as Kabuki theater.
